    * Create a branch with code cleanup commits in this ticket 
    * Update NEWS file
    * New tag in git
    * New version in Trac
    * Package tar.(gz|bzip|lzma) files
    * Make checksums for archives
    * Upload source packages and fixups to http://www.midnight-commander.org/downloads
    * Try to download, verify checksums, build and install tarballs
    * Update Wiki start page with latest release number
    * Write an announcement: list user visible changes (bugs and features)
    * Create new NEWS file :)
    * PROFIT 

Please remember that after -pre4 we will release 4.7.0. Therefore no changes to the i18n-related stuff and no new features are allowed, bugfixing only. We need to prepare translations and contact i18n teams.
