 * configure & compile mc with '--enable-charset' option;
 * run mc
 * go to dir with any of *.zip, *.rpm, *.deb, *.patch/diff files
 * Change path encoding to any other by pressing ALT+e (selected encoding should be dfferent to system encoding)
 * try to enter to archive

You'll se error message from extfs module.
