When I select the directory a:foobar in a panel and then press 
<Enter>, an error message pops up.

This bug report is a reminder that we should define a pathname 
interpretation specification to work around all bugs that we 
currently have in this area.

A small observation:

CTRL+O in mc
$ cd a:foobar
CTRL+O in mc again

we are inside a:foobar
